Keynote talk: Recycled aggregates and applications generated from recycled solid waste: Sustainable development approach by developing new technologies and the Vietnamese standard and guideline

Keynote Speaker: Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) and other forms of solid waste management present significant challenges for Vietnam in the current situation. Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) made from CDW was initially produced, and this technology has since been further developed to recycle other types of solid waste to create additional recycled materials. Recycling technologies are crucial, and they have been developed and applied in multiple regions of Vietnam. However, for these recycled materials to gain wider acceptance, national standards and guidelines are essential.

The Vietnamese standard TCVN 13694:2023, “Recycled graded aggregate from construction and demolition waste for base and subbase of urban roads – Specifications and test methods,” and the guideline “Demolition process and sorting at site for construction” were developed and issued. These new technologies, along with the national standards and guidelines, have significantly increased the solid waste recycling rate in Vietnam.
